About

Abhinava Dhanvantari – Journal of Ayurveda is the revival edition of Dhanvantari, the first ever medical journal in Ayurveda published in the early part of the twentieth century by Keraleeya Ayurveda Samajam, Shoranur. As a pioneer journal of its kind, it carried the legacy of renowned physicians and scholars of Kerala about hundred years ago. Ancient wisdom of Ayurveda continued to bless its seekers by its unique ways of understanding human life and health. Sages not only learnt and taught the science of life to their students orally but documented the same as manuscripts in Sanskrit, the language of scholars of that time. Such pearls of wisdom were respected widely and handled only by higher or authorised authorities in the society. Documented version of Ayurveda was mostly in the form of verses in Sanskrit. The textbooks and treatises of Ayurveda were handled with respect and the verses were repeatedly chanted as part of education and ritualistic practice. Students of Ayurveda were considered spiritually evolved and with all the qualities needed to learn the same. They were trained to keep senses all open and to receive knowledge from around. Every sage or disciple of Ayurveda meditated on the science thoroughly before adding own experiences to the treatises. Till now, such a pattern of timely documentation of Ayurveda is followed by physicians and seekers of Ayurveda worldwide. In the lineage of such elegant Ayurvedic knowledge sources, stands out Abhinava Dhanvantari – Journal of Ayurveda. When the ancient wisdom combines with best brains of today, a new chapter in journalism for Ayurveda begins.
Abhinava Dhanvantari, is published under the publication division of PNNM Ayurveda Medical College, Kerala under the auspices of Shri Sringeri Sharada peetham and Keraleeya Ayurveda Samajam. The advisory and editorial boards of this journal are constituted by experts from across the globe representing premier institutes and eminent personalities of Ayurveda. It is brought out and nurtured by a group of passionate people, dedicated to work for a better model of Ayurvedic knowledge transmission.

In the modern world, knowledge and understanding of Ayurveda principles along with practice is accepted comprehensively. Abhinava Dhanvantari aims to help familiarise in the key areas of Ayurveda and pass on the experiences of subject experts. It is intended to bring about a revolutionary thought process of Ayurveda in the modern world and to inform and enlighten the aspirants regarding the critical issues in the field of Ayurveda.

Abhinava Dhanvantari – each issue profiles experts and leading institutions with the focus on a core theme and serves as a reference material for students, practitioners, and researchers alike. We intend to position this journal between science and society, with contents that will help the Vaidya to bridge the two – as Ayurveda intended.
